Elections happen every year, sometimes twice a year. In certain places, there might even be three.

But in May, 2024, residents of Harris County, the largest county in Texas with Houston at its center, will have two elections in just one month, and your vote for Democratic candidates is crucial in each of them. We’ll have a 3rd in June, and again, your vote is crucial.

One is on May 4th, a special election to fill the remainder of a Texas Senate seat and three places on the Harris County Appriasal District (HCAD) Board.

The other is May 28th, a runoff from the March 5th Democratic primaries, with a number of countywide races including Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar as well as some judicial and legislative positions. For some people, there will be school board races as well.

The third is the runoff from the May 4th election for two of the HCAD Board seats. No candidates in Place 2 or 3 got greater than 50% of the vote, so we have runoff in those races.

This website is here to help you find out:

  • How to make sure you’re registered in time to vote.
  • Dates and locations for each election’s early voting and election days.
  • Which Democrats are running for what in each race.
  • Who we recommend voting for.
  • How to get other people to join you in turning out to vote so that our democracy can be a little bit more representative.

So stay tuned for more. But in the meantime, keep your eye on social media. Follow #HarrisCountyHustle, and use it yourself, too!

And mark your calendar for the 4th and 28th of May, and now, for the 15th of June!
